Review: 2025 Neta X 400 Air Electric Compact SUV - Performance, Comfort, and Cost-efficiency

BYD s real trump card! Over 4.8 meters in length, runs 2,100 km on a full tank, and looks even sleeker than the Qin L.

We know that most of BYD s cars focus on cost-effectiveness. Apart from the well-known Qin Plus DM-i priced at 79,800 yuan, other models like the Yuan Plus, Song Plus, Song L, and Destroyer 05 are also top choices for many families. Of course, BYD has also made strides in the mid-to-high-end segment, with models like the Tang and Han enjoying strong popularity and reputation, while the million-yuan luxury car, the Yangwang U8, is particularly favored by the affluent. Thus, BYD now covers the entire price spectrum, with a product lineup ranging from budget cars priced at tens of thousands to luxury off-road vehicles worth millions. For ordinary consumers, buying a car naturally prioritizes cost-effectiveness, especially in the new energy segment. A budget of 100,000 to 150,000 yuan is more than sufficient for daily commuting. That’s why today, we’re discussing BYD’s true ace—a car with a length exceeding 4.8 meters, capable of traveling 2,100 kilometers on a single tank of fuel, and even more stylish than the Qin L. This car is the BYD Seal 06 DM-i, with a guide price of 99,800 to 139,800 yuan.

First of all, we know that the Seal 06 and the Qin L are essentially not very different—one comes from the Dynasty Network, while the other is from the Ocean Network. The Seal 06 overall appears more sporty and individual, aligning better with the aesthetic preferences of younger people, which is evident from its exterior design. The front face adopts the Ocean Network s family design language, featuring a rounded and full hood with striking headlight clusters, giving the front end a distinct resemblance to the marine creature, the seal. Of course, for slightly older consumers, the Qin L might be the preferred choice due to its more conventional styling. The side profile is equally dynamic, with semi-concealed door handles that, in my opinion, strike the most reasonable balance—fully concealed ones can be less convenient to use, while traditional ones tend to look somewhat outdated.

Due to its coupe-style design, the car features a sleek, fastback rear silhouette that looks very dynamic, complemented by distinctive wheels that match the overall style. However, the wheel sizes are slightly on the smaller side—only the top trim gets 18-inch wheels, the entry-level version has 16-inch wheels, and the rest come with 17-inch wheels. If 18-inch wheels were standard across the lineup, it would further elevate the car s premium feel. The rear is equipped with a full-width LED light bar, with BYD s lettered logo positioned above it. Compared to the front, the rear design is somewhat understated, lacking standout elements. Of course, this is likely a deliberate choice given the car s positioning as a family vehicle, where overly flashy designs aren t really necessary.

As a mid-size sedan, the Seal 06 DM-i doesn t have a significant size advantage within its class, with a length of only 4,830 mm. However, it boasts a width of 1,875 mm and a wheelbase of 2,790 mm. This clearly positions it as a competitor in a niche market—slightly smaller than traditional mid-size sedans in terms of space, but considerably more spacious than compact cars one segment below, especially in the rear seats. In real-world testing, a passenger who is 1.78 meters tall has about three fingers worth of headroom and ample legroom, measuring approximately two fists and two fingers. Even when fully loaded, as long as the passengers weight isn t excessive, comfort remains uncompromised.

However, it s a bit of a letdown that the entry-level models only feature manual seat adjustments. The two mid-range variants offer power adjustment solely for the driver s seat, and only the two higher-end models provide power adjustment for both the driver and front passenger seats—though this is understandable given the price point. Additionally, the car boasts a 550L trunk capacity, and the rear seats can be folded down in a split configuration, ensuring relatively high overall space utilization.

As for the interior, the Seal 06 DM-i doesn’t offer many surprises either. The only standout feature is the steering wheel design, which resembles the tail fin of a marine creature, giving it a very distinctive and sporty look. The symmetrical dashboard follows a rather conventional layout. The infotainment screen comes in three sizes: the entry-level model has a modest 10.1-inch display, the top-tier version boasts a 15.6-inch screen, while other trims feature a 12.8-inch display. Fortunately, an 8.8-inch full LCD instrument cluster is standard across all variants. Additionally, the compact and sleek electronic gear shifter adds a touch of technological sophistication to the cabin. The sport-style seats provide decent comfort, with bolstering and support befitting this segment. Beyond these elements, the interior of the Seal 06 DM-i indeed lacks notable highlights.

As a plug-in hybrid model, the Seal 06 DM-i s powertrain is a major advantage. The car is primarily equipped with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine, delivering a maximum horsepower of 101 hp and a peak torque of 126 Nm. It comes with a front-mounted single motor, offering two power options: total motor horsepower of 163 hp and 218 hp, with 0-100 km/h acceleration times of 7.9 seconds and 7.5 seconds, respectively. Its performance holds a certain advantage among models in the 100,000-yuan price range. Of course, what matters even more is its range and fuel efficiency. The car offers two battery capacities: 10.08 kWh and 15.87 kWh, providing pure electric ranges of 80 km and 120 km, respectively. The WLTC combined fuel consumption is 1.36 L/100 km and 1.1 L/100 km, while the fuel consumption under depleted battery conditions is 3.8 L/100 km and 3.98 L/100 km.

It s worth mentioning that the BYD Seal 06 DM-i boasts a fuel tank capacity of 65 liters, allowing for a combined range of up to 2,100 kilometers when fully fueled and charged—enough for several long-distance round trips. Whether used in urban areas or on highways, range anxiety is virtually non-existent. So, what are your thoughts on the Seal 06 DM-i?
