Introducing the Haval Menglong: A Comprehensive Review of the 2025 Compact SUV with Rugged Design and Innovative Features

At the 2025 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Auto Show, the Haval Menglong made its appearance. The fuel version of the model had already been launched with a limited-time promotional price ranging from 146,900 to 156,900 yuan. With the manufacturer s trade-in subsidy applied, the limited-time trade-in price was further reduced to 136,900–146,900 yuan. The new vehicle is positioned as a compact SUV.

In terms of appearance, the Haval Menglong (Haval Raptor) gasoline version differs from the plug-in hybrid version, featuring a more rugged design with new headlights and grille. The boxy shape echoes the square box styling. On the side profile, prominent wheel arches enhance the tough look, and the vehicle is equipped with Giti all-terrain AT tires. The dimensions of the new model are 4,800 mm in length, 1,950 mm in width, and 1,843 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,738 mm. The approach angle is 25 degrees, departure angle 32 degrees, ramp breakover angle 23 degrees, and ground clearance measures 223 mm unladen and 185 mm fully loaded. The maximum wading depth is 580 mm.

At the rear of the vehicle, 300 ultra-red 628nm LEDs are arranged in a diamond-shaped matrix pattern, featuring a distinctive vertical ring taillight layout. The new model comes with an externally mounted spare tire and a side-opening tailgate. Additionally, it introduces a fresh Moss Rock Green color option.

In terms of the interior, the overall design is relatively simpler, featuring a two-spoke steering wheel with more user-friendly buttons. The instrument panel displays a 3D model of the new vehicle. The floating central control screen showcases a 540-degree panoramic view, along with the Coffee OS system that provides access to various app operations. The seats are generally comfortable and well-padded. The trunk offers a standard capacity of 586L, which can be expanded to a maximum of 1404L when folded down, and includes a 220V power outlet.

In terms of powertrain, the new vehicle is equipped with Great Wall s self-developed next-generation 2.0T high-power engine, featuring Miller Cycle technology and a high compression ratio. It delivers a maximum power output of 175 kW, with a WLTC combined fuel consumption of 8.65 L/100 km. The engine is paired with a 9-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (9DCT) and adopts a column-mounted gear shifter. The 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 8.1 seconds.

The new vehicle features an on-demand four-wheel-drive system with an electronically controlled mechanical dog clutch differential lock on the rear axle, which rigidly locks both rear wheels for 100% torque output, enhancing off-road capability. The mechanical dog clutch ensures higher performance and safety. It offers nine driving modes, including Normal, Sport, Economy, Snow, Mud, Sand, Grass/Gravel, Rough Road, and Auto. Additionally, the vehicle can be equipped with a towing package, supporting a maximum trailer weight of 1,600 kg and a vertical load of 160 kg, meeting users needs for towing small trailers like campers or motorcycles during long-distance travels.
